The Tool of the Trade that we would be featuring in this week’s #TOTThursdays with regards to synchronization is the ever popular email client of one of the biggest companies in the whole world, Google. The tagline for their email, “A Google approach to email” is definitely a good way to describe it. because they have definitely given email countless possibilities. Google Mail or more popularly known as Gmail has been only around for a couple of years and yet, it has been one of the most used email clients in the world. Here in the Philippines, most users use them for their “professional” accounts while they use other email clients for personally and for social media. But what a lot of Filipinos miss out is that Gmail have more flexibility and functionality than other email clients. We are not here to talk about their pros and cons in detail, but some of the features that we definitely love are the space it provides (8Gb), filters, ability to forward, and of course, synchronize across devices (which is really the topic we like to discuss). There are a lot of websites and blogs that have already explained this function, but we would just like to point out several factors. First, Gmail enables forwarding of their email to other email addresses. Yes, other email clients have them and some have it enabled at a price. But Google offers this for free. We all love free right? That’s why the phrase, the best things in life are free. And because Gmail has this feature for free, this makes synchronization possible at no cost at all! That’s right, for free. The reason why we can sync across our devices is because we can access the email client in numerous ways, not just what we are accustomed to, which is through a web browser. The goal of #TOTThursdays is to provide you with Tools of the Trade that would enable you to be more efficient and effective in whatever industry you are currently in. For that reason, we have chosen Gmail and its functionality of letting its user sync across all his or her devices as the first of the series because we have been using it and it has really helped us manage our emails, contacts, and calendar. Just to reiterate, How? Well, we will leave the technicalities to the other sites (just search them in Google), but basically just see to it that you have enable the POP Download and IMAP Access. By default, as you can see in the image below, POP is already enabled by default while the IMAP is not. So just click that little button and you will be all set to sync across all your devices. We would not be discussing “How To’s” across all devices but here are the devices you can synchronize Gmail with: Just click on the image to find out how to sync your devices. Google provides easy-to-follow instructions on how to use this functionality. If you are still having trouble syncing your devices, just send us a tweet so we can help. Next week, another service that Google provides that will you will surely like.
Gmail can synchronize email, contacts, and calendar across all your devices – All these for FREE!

In this week’s #QuoteMeWednesdays, we will first tackle the start of it all. Events! What is an event? According for Germaine Salvador, in her book Event Management: Envision. Execute. Evaluate., she defined an event as “commonly understood as an occurrence; something that happens.” Here, she further explained the history of Events and how it came to be as it is today. According to Joe Goldblatt, an authority on event management and author of several books on the subject defined special events as “a unique moment in time celebrated with ceremony and ritual to satisfy specific needs.” Donald Getz, a professor of tourism and hospitality management from the University of Calgary presents his definition of special events from two perspectives: ~”A special event is a one-time occurring event outside the normal programs or activities of the sponsoring or organizing body;” or The book further states the Events are planned, and are always planned to be special, and have these common characteristics: So in order for us to remember what Events really are, the author of the book summarized all of these into one concise statement: About the author: Corporate Trainer and Facilitator You can find her book at the C&E Bookshop. ~”To the customer or guest, a special event is an opportunity for a leisure, social or cultural experience outside the normal range of choices or beyond everyday experience.”
Events are unique happenings that bring people together for a purpose.

If you start with the program, more often than not, you will have to revise it over and over again! Not because of changes in the plan (which we often blame) but because we do not know the objectives and restrictions of that event! Examples of this mistake are preparing a Catholic program for a Christian (Protestant) program; preparing a program for a Christmas party that includes games that requreis running around, not knowing that your guests are 50+ years of age.
These are only some of the few examples that are the most common types of mistakes when planning and starting an Event in the wrong way.

Are you having an Event? Planning your own debut? Perhaps your own wedding? Or how about a Christmas Party or a Reunion? #TuesdayTips Don’t start with the program!
The program is not the first thing you should do as part of your planning. This should be done after a couple more steps that are, almost always, neglected and forgotten.
Knowing the Purpose of the event, setting event objectives, knowing your audience, and budgets are the first things one should do in order to start planning their event. This way, you can avoid the hassle and stress of going back and forth, wandering in the dark not knowing what to do next. Once this is set, you can now proceed to the next step of the plan.
